First Home Buyers
About the first home owner grant
Helping you own your first home…
The $7,000 first home owner grant was created to help you buy or build your first home. It is a federal initiative that is administered and funded by the state government.
Regional First Home Owner Grant (RFHOG)
A new grant of $4,000 is available to first home buyers in regional areas—this is in addition to the $7,000 first home owner grant.
To be eligible for the $4,000 regional bonus, the following must apply:
- You must be eligible for the $7,000 first home owner grant.
- You must either build or buy a new home—the bonus does not apply to established homes.
- The home must be located in a Queensland regional area
- The commencement date (i.e. the contract date or, for owner-builders, the date the foundations are laid) must be between 1 June 2010 and 30 June 2011 (inclusive). However, there is no set time that building must be completed.
What is a new home?
A new home is a home that has never been sold before or occupied by another person. This includes:
- contracts to build a home
- homes bought ‘off the plan’
- homes built by an owner-builder
- display homes.
A substantially renovated home may qualify as a new home if it has not, since being substantially renovated, been occupied or sold as a place of residence. Substantial renovations of a building are renovations in which all, or substantially all, of a building is removed or replaced.
Generally, if you pay GST on the purchase of your home, it will be considered to be a ‘new home’.
We at BK Ganter Constructions strive to make the buyers experience as hassle free as possible and will work through the different stages of building with them.
